WHAT GUITAR SHOULD I BUY?
For your first guitar I would recommend a ‘Nylon String’ also known as a ‘Classical Guitar’ Playing on this you will progress faster and then can move to a guitar more fitted to you genre latter.
They also come in 4 different sizes to suit different ages, use the chart below to help you choose

8-11 years old | 4’6″ to 4’11” | 3/4-Size |

WHEN SHOULD I CHANGE MY STRINGS
Guitar For Practice:
Two times a year should be enough.
Guitar For Studio/Gigging:
Depending on how often you are recording/performing I would recommend changing them Six (give or take) times a year and lining up the new strings with more important recordings/performances.
WHAT STRINGS SHOULD I PUT ON MY GUITAR
First determine what type of guitar you have ‘Electric, Nylon Acoustic, Steel Acoustic’
1. Dose your guitar have a sound hole?
‘No’ its an ‘Electric’ goto stage ‘3.’
‘Yes’ goto stage ‘2.’
2. Are the thinnest 3 strings made of plastic or metal?
‘Plastic’ its a ‘Nylon’.
‘Metal’ its a ‘Steel’
3. The next thing to look out for is ‘Gauge’, this is the thickness of the strings.
My Recommended Gauges are:
Electric: 10-46
Steel: 12-53
Nylon: 28-44
From here you can go thinner or thicker as to suit your preference.
AM I TO 'OLD'/'YOUNG' TO LEARN GUITAR?
No Age is to Young or Old.
So far my youngest student has been 4 and oldest student has been 72 and both have come a long way in there time here.
But if your below 6 I will start with music fundamentals in the form of games before moving to guitar.
